Walter was a great husband, father, pawpaw and great grandfather and friend. Preceding him in death are his parents, Dale and Bernice brother, Freddie Slack nephew, Tommy Slack. Slack are ten grandchildren, Courtnie, Tristian, Dylan, Alisha, Cody, Kassie, Jessica, Tori, Andy, and Katie, four great-grandchildren, Caydin, Bryn, Shiloh and Julia and his brother, J.D. Surviving Walter, his wife, Betty Jean Slack his seven children, Stephanie Boyack and husband, James of Lindale, TX, Ben Hargett and wife, Jinniffer of Marshall, Brenda Herring and fiancé, Stephen Quaid of Marshall, Stacie Herring and wife, Stacy of Marshall, Tracie Herring of Marshall, Candace Daniel and husband, David of Baytown, TX, and David Troy Rathbun. After graduation Walter worked as a Dispatcher, an EMT, a Firefighter and retired from the construction industry as Construction Supervisor. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday. After graduation he attended Stephen Austin State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. SLACK, John William (Jack) Of Guelph, passed away at the Guelph General Hospital. He was a graduate of Elysian Fields High School where he played football and was an active member of the FFA. Walter was born in Bossier, Louisiana to Dale and Bernice Slack on August 6, 1946. A visitation will take place from 6pm to 8pm, Thursday, Octoat Downs Funeral Home.
